Time-based transfers on TTC in effect for PRESTO users starting Aug. 26

The new system adapted from TTC called hop-on will enter into force on August 26th. The system allows commuters to be able to make more stops over a two-hour period to run errands around the city and be able to get back on a tram, metro or bus without having to pay an additional fee. The hop-on, hop-off system is only available to users of PRESTO cards.

It is estimated that the change costs $ 11.1 million to be implemented for the rest of 2018 and will cost about $ 21 million per year going forward.

Speaking to journalists in central East York, Mayor John Tory said the move will make the TTC “cheaper”.

“Think about how this will help people shop, run errands, get their kids without having to pay again,” Tory said finally.

“It gives people flexibility, gives them options, gives them their choice without additional expense for them, it will be good for people, but it will be good for business too.”

To validate the transfer on paper, PRESTO customers should touch their card whenever they enter a subway station or board a bus or tram.

Soon it is now available on all trams, buses and in every Toronto subway.
